Alton branch hits all the right notes

Alton RM2

Newbury Building Society’s Alton branch supports All Saints' Church and the Royal Marines School of Music to raise money for local charities.

A cheque presentation took place at Newbury Building Society’s Alton branch to recognise the efforts of All Saints’ Church which hosted a concert performed by the Royal Marines School of Music.

The event was organised by Derek and Rosemary Shutler to raise money for local charities, in memory of musician Bob Symonds. Mr. Symonds was killed in the IRA bombing of the RM’s Deal Barracks. Money raised from the concert, totalling £2,500, has been shared between Alton Food Bank and Alton Covenant Youth Choir (both pictured receiving their cheques).

Alton branch played their part by selling tickets for the concert, which once again was a sell-out. Ellen Turner and Julie Pink, Branch Assistants at the Society, were invited to attend the event. Speaking after the presentation, Ellen said: "We very much enjoyed selling the tickets and had a wonderful evening listening to the superb performance from the Royal Marines School of Music."

Derek Shutler, who organised the event, said: “We are indebted to the support of Newbury Building Society and the sponsorship by Kemp & Stevens of Alton. Without these businesses this annual concert would not happen.”
