Directors

Meet the Directors

Our Board of Directors is responsible for:

  • Setting the Society's strategy and business objectives.
  • Ensuring financial and human resources are in place to meet business objectives.
  • Reviewing management performance.

The Board delegates certain powers and responsibilities to a number of committees, which are chaired by Non-Executive Directors and attended by a mixture of Non-Executive Directors, Executives and Senior Management.

Roland Gardner

Chief Executive

Qualifications: MA (Hons)

Roland joined the Society in 1987. He was appointed to the Board of Directors in September 2006 and as Chief Executive on 1 February 2007. Roland is a member of the Assets & Liabilities, Credit and Sales, Marketing and Development Committees. 

Lee Bambridge

Financial Director

Qualifications: BA (Hons) ACA AMCT

Lee joined the Society and Board of Directors in July 2007.  He is a Chartered Accountant and a Corporate Treasurer and previously worked in the Aerospace industry.  Lee is a member of the Assets & Liabilities Committee. 

Phillippa Cardno

Operations & Sales Director

Qualifications: PGCert, CeMap

Phillippa joined the Society in 1996 and was promoted to the Executive team in 2007. She was appointed to the Board of Directors in February 2015 as Operations and Sales Director. Phillippa is a member of the Credit and Sales, Marketing and Development Committees.

Peter Brickley

Chairman of the Board

Qualifications: BSc (Hons)

Peter was appointed to the Board of Directors in July 2008. He is Global Chief Information Officer for a global brewer. Peter is Chairman of the Strategic Risk and Remuneration & Nomination Committees.

John Parker

Vice Chairman

Qualifications: MA (Cantab), FCA, ACBSI

John was appointed to the Board of Directors in April 2007. He is a Chartered Accountant and member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers.  He was Chief Executive of a regional Building Society and a past Chairman of the Building Societies Association. He is the chairman of the Assets & Liabilities committee and member of the Strategic Risk, Audit and Remuneration & Nomination Committees.

Ron Simms

Non-Executive Director

Qualifications: BA (Hons), Solicitor

Ron was appointed to the Board of Directors in June 2010. He is Director of Corporate Services for one of the UK's largest personal lines insurance intermediaries, and brings a wealth of experience in legal and risk management. Ron is Chairman of the Audit Committee and is a member of the Assets & Liabilities, Remuneration & Nomination and Strategic Risk Committees

Tracy Morshead

Non-Executive Director

Qualifications: FCIM

Tracy was appointed to the Board of Directors in June 2012. He is a Chartered Marketer and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. He was Managing Director of a regional building society and has 15 years experience within the building society sector. Tracy is Chairman of the Sales, Marketing and Development Committee and is a member of the Credit and Strategic Risk Committees.

William Roberts

Non-Executive Director

Qualifications: BSc (Hons), ACA

William was appointed to the Board of Directors in February 2015. He is a Chartered Accountant and is Finance Director for a Housing Association. William has over 15 years experience in the property sector and 10 years experience in the Housing Association sector. He is a member of the Audit, Credit and Strategic Risk Committees.

Sarah Hordern

Non-Executive Director

Qualifications: BA (Hons), ACA

Sarah was appointed to the Board of Directors in February 2015. She is a Chartered Accountant and former managing director of Newbury Racecourse, where she progressed her financial and property development skills. She is a member of the Credit, Sales Marketing & Development and Strategic Risk Committees.
