At Newbury Building Society, we love getting to know you and helping you look after your finances.
People know us, and appreciate us, because of our excellent customer service, our involvement with the local community, and our firm commitment to giving members long-term value.
Our purpose, vision and culture page explains the promises we make to all Newbury Building Society members.
As a building society, we’re owned by our members so we work solely in their interests. Because we are mutual, we don’t have to pay dividends to shareholders. This gives us a clear advantage over banks and former building societies. It means we can invest our profits into better savings and mortgage rates for the long-term benefit of our members.
The Society has been helping local people step onto the housing ladder for 160 years. We have branches across Berkshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire and specialise in affordable housing mortgages.
We guarantee that you will always be able to speak to a person, not a computer. Our CeMAP (Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice) qualified mortgage advisers are available from Mondays to Saturdays and we offer a free, no obligation meeting to discuss your needs. Alternatively we can arrange a telephone appointment to suit you.
Our current savings rates can be found here. We introduced an Existing Members Account for members in 2001, which gives a number of other added value benefits.
The Money Advice Service
When it comes to your money, impartial information and tools can help you work out what’s right for you.
The Money Advice Service is a free, independent service set up by the Government. It gives clear, unbiased advice to help you make informed choices about what you can do with your money. The website includes a financial health check based around a series of multiple choice questions on your personal budget. It focuses on what you think about money, and it looks at your current situation in relation to savings, debt and housing costs, as well as considering future changes to income or circumstances. The financial health check then gives you the top three things you could do to make the most of your money now, along with an action plan for future goals.
Service to you
Branches are the key to giving our members an excellent personal service. Our head office in Newbury is the heart of our business. We know there’s a need to look at other distribution channels, and we’re always looking for new and better ways of offering products and services to our members.
We have over 150 employees. We invest a great deal of time in their training, so that they can deliver excellent levels of service. Staff are encouraged to become both academically and professionally qualified. In 2016, the Society was re-accredited for the quality of its provision of training and development from The National Skills Academy for Financial Services.
Your feedback is so valuable – we exist for your benefit, so we need to know what we’re doing right and how we could improve. We welcome suggestions and are ready to answer any questions you have, whether you contact us by telephone, email or in person. Drop into a branch – we’d love to meet you.
Each year we send members our "Your Society" newsletter, which lets you know what we’ve been doing during the year and what plans we have for the future. We have an email update service you can subscribe to for news on interest rates, products, jobs and community events. Our newsroom features regular communications and press coverage for you to read at your leisure.
