Avoid getting caught out in the Black Friday mega-sales with our savvy shopping tips.
What can a savings appointment offer you that you can’t simply find through a quick online search? Ken, Customer Service Adviser in our Basingstoke branch, and Rachel, Customer Service Adviser in Newbury, explain what you (and your savings) could be missing out on.
So, Ken and Rachel, why do you think savings appointments are useful?
Ken: Firstly, the customer is getting a personal service, face-to-face with a Qualified Savings Adviser (QSA), so they have a name and contact straightaway and get to experience the Society’s welcoming customer service. It’s an ideal opportunity to raise any questions they may have and it also gives us insight what the customers’ expectations are, how they want to use the account, and how much they want to save.
Rachel: It is always useful to have savings appointments because it can identify other accounts that might be more suited to you, for instance if you have savings goals or if you save on a regular basis. It can also identify accounts that may have a better rate of interest, therefore giving you more value for money.
And what do the appointments entail, for someone who has never had one before? Do customers need to bring anything with them?
Ken: Appointments can vary from anything from 25 minutes to just over an hour. With current customers we do have an advantage as we can prepare forms before they arrive and then confirm details during the appointment. If the customer wants to open more than one account or are new to the Society, it can take a little longer.
Rachel: Savings appointments generally take around 20-30 minutes. We advise that you bring in a form of name and address identification, such as your photocard driving license, passport, or utility bill from the last 3 months. We also advise that you have your National Insurance number with you as well.
Finally, what would you say is the main reason to book a savings appointment with the Society?
Ken: In this digital age, people sometimes miss out on that personal touch and rapport, and the chance to build a savings relationship not just with the Society but with QSAs as individuals as well. Lots of people like to speak face-to-face, and the choice of visiting us in branch or managing accounts online appeals to a lot of our customers. The main reason I would recommend an appointment is so that customers have a reliable and dependable relationship with us.
Rachel: It is always good to have regular reviews of savings as the interest rates can change and sometimes the account limits. We may be able to offer different accounts with a better rate of interest or may save you money on penalties for early withdrawal.
