Kickstart your career in one of our branches - just like Amelia did

Astronaut, artist, footballer, doctor…whatever your ambitions, chances are you didn’t fantasise about working for a building society when you were small (although if you did, good for you)! Whether you’re finishing your education, searching for a career change, or considering returning to work after a break, our branches are great places to work.

Amelia Corney is an Intermediary Sales Adviser in our Intermediary team, working to support mortgage brokers and introduced mortgage business. She started her career at the Society as a Customer Service Adviser in our Wokingham branch. Here she explains how her branch experience has helped her to progress.

Why did you apply for a job in Wokingham branch?

"I was recommended the role by a customer who spoke highly of the Society. At the time, the locality and the role suited what I was looking for - I researched Newbury and found I really identified with the strong community values and customer service ethos."

How did your branch role help you to secure your current role?

"During my time in the branch role, I was given so many opportunities. My skillset was improved and expanded by being able to learn about savings, customer service, procedures, teamwork, and mortgages. The skills you develop are adaptable for most roles and a great way to gain experience."

What was your favourite part of working in Wokingham branch?

"Definitely the team atmosphere, and the customers."

Would you recommend working in a branch to other people?

"100%! The Society is a brilliant company to work for. They offer great benefits and incentives as well as continuous support and opportunities to learn and develop."

Three words to describe your time at Newbury so far are...

"Community, opportunities, atmosphere."
