A new charity partnership for Head Office

We are pleased to announce that Newbury Soup Kitchen (registered charity: 1179298) have become the new charity partner of our head office, replacing our previous charity partner, Alzheimer's Society (registered charity: 296645).

We are absolutely delighted that our head office is beginning a new partnership with Newbury Soup Kitchen. Having raised over £50,000 for Alzheimer’s Society during our six-year partnership, the time was right to find a new charity to support. Newbury Soup Kitchen is a truly brilliant organisation, who work incredibly hard to support vulnerable and homeless people locally. We’re looking forward to working closely with Meryl and the rest of the team at Newbury Soup Kitchen to volunteer, fundraise, and raise awareness.

Our charity partner scheme

Our charity partnership scheme is a big part of our ethos as a mutual organisation. Each of our branches are partnered with a local charity, representing a long-term commitment to work together to build a mutually beneficial relationship that betters the local community.

This new partnership will see our Head Office working closely with Newbury Soup Kitchen on fundraising, volunteering, and raising awareness.

Who are Newbury Soup Kitchen?

Newbury Soup Kitchen is a service for homeless and vulnerable people in Newbury that provides hot food along with an opportunity to socialise with and access support from their non-judgemental team and other likeminded people.

They provide haircuts, vaccinations, and necessities such as showers and laundry coupons, food bank tokens, and toiletries. Clients are also given access to optometry services and a community nurse free of charge.

Meryl Praill, CEO of Newbury Kitchen, commented: “Thank you for all the incredible support that Newbury Building Society has given us so far this year. We have enjoyed getting to know the staff and building relations with such an important company.

Newbury Soup Kitchen serves as a pillar of support for those in need in the Newbury and West Berkshire areas. Our approach is holistic, addressing not only the physical hunger but also the emotional and social needs of each person we encounter.

Our dedicated team of volunteers and outreach workers invest their time and hearts to provide support, encouragement, and empathy. We strive to empower individuals to make better life decisions by fostering trust and building meaningful relationships. Through these connections, we aim to instil confidence and hope for a brighter future.”
