2022 was a bumper year for fundraising across Newbury Building Society branches and head office, with over £60,000 raised for our nine local partner charities.
As a mutual organisation it is incredibly important to us to support local charities and build strong relationships with them, and our charity partnership scheme is just one of the ways in which we do this. You can find out more about our nine current charity partners on this page.
Fundraising activities included everything from cake sales, to festive hamper competitions, to sponsored walks and second-hand book stalls. A large proportion of the funds raised came from the Society's charity savings account. Members who open this account can save and nominate a charity to which the Society makes an annual donation based on the savings balances.
Here are the amazing totals raised for each charity in 2022:
- Alton Foodbank - £1,615.26
- Alzheimer's Society - £16,989.46
- Helen and Douglas House - £6,259.94
- Prior's Court School - £2,423.92
- St Michael's Hospice (North Hampshire) - £4,875.89
- Sue Ryder - £6,473.00
- The Countess of Brecknock Hospice Trust - £7,460.49
- Newbury and District Cancer Care - £13,163.33
- Trinity Winchester - £2,120.41
Here are some thoughts from our charity branch partners:
“We were absolutely delighted to have been nominated as the charity branch partner of the Society’s Newbury and Thatcham branches last year. We are extremely grateful to all of the employees and customers of the Newbury and Thatcham branches for raising the magnificent total of £13,163.33 and this donation will help us to continue our support of people in our local communities who have been affected by cancer.”
Helen Milroy, Director of Operations at Newbury Cancer Care
“The branch staff and customers have worked so hard to raise this amazing sum of money, which is the most raised to date. We have been the charity partner of Andover Branch since 2019 and in that time, they have raised over £11,000 and given generously of their time at our events. We wanted to formally recognise their wonderful support and awarded Cliff and the staff our special silver Countess of Brecknock Hospice supporter badges.”
Michele Gard, Director of Countess of Brecknock Hospice
These impressive donations are only possible through the fundraising efforts of our employees and the generosity of our members. I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all who have contributed this last year
