Newbury Building Society has appointed a new Chair to its Board of Directors.
Piers Williamson, who joined the board as a non-executive director in January 2018, is succeeding Peter Brickley as the Society's chair, following the conclusion of the Society’s AGM on 23 February 2022.
Piers is the Chief Executive of The Housing Finance Corporation, a mutual lender to UK Housing Associations, a role he has held for the past 18 years, and in that capacity, he has worked extensively with the government and with government agencies involved in social housing. He is a specialist in treasury risk management and is viewed as a sector leader on all aspects of housing finance. He speaks regularly at a variety of industry events, such as the National Housing Conference and the Housing Finance Conference and Exhibition.
I am honoured to have been selected to lead the Board in this exciting new era of Financial Services provision. I am very much looking forward to working with the board and the executive to ensure the Society builds upon its performance to date and maintains its record of success. The Society is going from strength to strength and provides a first class mortgage and savings service to our members. It will be my priority to ensure this continues and that we continue to strengthen our position in the market place.
Chief Executive Roland Gardner added: "I am delighted Piers has been unanimously appointed by our directors to be chair of the board. His experience and extensive knowledge will be invaluable as we continue to build on our success and focus on our aim to deliver a strong sustainable future for the organisation."
"I also thank Peter Brickley for the outstanding contribution he has made as our chair since his appointment to the role in February 2015. He has successfully led the development of our growth strategy and guided the business through many challenges, not least the Covid pandemic. This has enabled us to remain focused on ensuring we deliver the best possible outcomes for our members and our employees. Peter retires, after serving his full permitted term with us. We wish him all the best for the future."
