We are proud to announce a new long-term charity partnership between our Thatcham branch, and local children’s charity, Swings & Smiles (registered charity 1120598).
The branch were previously partnered with Newbury Cancer Care. The Society’s Newbury branch, located on Northbrook Street, remain partnered with Newbury Cancer Care.
Swings & Smiles was set up in 2007 to support children aged 0-18 with disabilities and their families, offering a safe place to play and socialise without the pressures often experienced in wider community settings. Their services include respite, family play sessions, youth clubs, sibling support, and outreach. They have a dedicated centre off of Lower Way in Thatcham.
I am delighted that Thatcham branch are now linking up with Swings & Smiles. Since joining the Society a year ago I have wanted to build greater links in the local community and what better way than to have a charity partner right in the heart of Thatcham. Swings & Smiles stood out from the start as a fantastic organisation committed to improving the quality of life for disabled children and their families. They are well known and respected in the town and I know the work they do is so important with some of our colleagues already having links to Swings & Smiles. Myself and the whole Thatcham team are looking forward to working with Rhonda and her colleagues at Swings & Smiles to volunteer, raise awareness and fundraise as much as we can over the coming years.
CEO of Swings & Smiles, Rhonda Nicklin, was delighted with the support. She commented: "Swings & Smiles are delighted to have been chosen by Newbury Building Society, Thatcham Branch, as their charity partner. At Swings & Smiles, we value working with our local business community, to support the lives of families affected by disability which can lead to isolation. We provide essential support to disabled children and their families, including respite services, family play, youth clubs, sibling support and outreach.
Swings & Smiles relies on fundraising efforts to continue providing the variety of services that we offer. The generous support from Newbury Building Society will allow us to continue our fundraising efforts and work with their fantastic team to spread awareness of the charity to families who might need this help."
